The arrest deals with four additional counts connected to alleged sexual crimes against a child. On Friday, September 21, 2018, police of the Vero Beach Police Precinct in Florida arrested a man after he sexually assaulted a woman just outside of the Indian River County Main Library. That Friday morning, a woman went to the police to report that she had been raped outside of the library building while she was sleeping in the area. Vero Beach police officers subsequently arrested the man, who was reported as being 44 years old but was later determined as being 45. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man accused of committing a sexual assault in 2017. An investigation of 48-year-old John Edward Reese began in early 2018 when a woman happened upon a newspaper notice regarding the man’s January 9 arrest for allegedly violating a curfew. Upon spotting the arrest notice, the woman contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report that she had previously been raped by Reese, and that his recent arrest and incarceration had given her the courage to come forward. Officials from the Sheriff’s Office stated that Reese had committed multiple prior offenses, including two that occurred in Martin County and dated back to 1997. A Port St. Lucie police officer who won Officer of the Year four years ago during his previous job with the Fort Pierce Police Department was arrested on September 22 in an investigation related to child pornography. Michael Harding, who had joined the Port Lucie Police Department in 2012, had been under investigation by undercover officers since July. Investigators were under the belief that Harding, who worked from Saturday to Tuesday between 10 p.m.-8 a.m., allegedly uploaded some of material while in his patrol car.
