28 Arrested in Indian River County Traffic Detail Over Memorial Day Weekend

A special DUI detail that was conducted over the Memorial Day holiday netted 28 arrests in Indian River County. Participating in the detail were the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department and officers from the Sebastian Police Department and Fellsmere Police Department. More than 150 traffic citations were issued by the detail during the holiday weekend, and 28 arrests were made. Those included 17 traffic arrests, seven DUI arrests and four drug arrests. Deputies took one 44-year-old man into custody on an outstanding warrant. He was wanted on charges of domestic battery, assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of crack cocaine and possession of controlled substances. Man Faces Multiple Felony Drug Charges After Vero Beach Arrest

A 32-year-old man has been charged with at least five felony drug charges after an encounter with Vero Beach Police earlier this week. A police department spokesman reports that a K9 officer and a bicycle officer were on patrol near 1900 9th Avenue around 9:00 p.m. when they came upon the man. A search of the man revealed that he was in possession large quantities of oxycodone and morphine along with cocaine, MDMA and marijuana. He has been charged with felony trafficking of a controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, felony possession of MDMA (ecstasy), felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and misdemeanor possession of marijuana weighing less than 20 grams. Indian River Country Sheriff’s Office Nets 21 Arrests

After two weeks of undercover work, the Indian County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit took 21 people into custody recently in a warrant sweep. Of those, 18 were nabbed for selling drugs. A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office reported that it had been involved in a number of undercover drug purchases, “and it was just time to do a sweep.” The agency’s vice unit participated in the sweep. “They just wanted to grab everybody at the same time.” The drugs reportedly seized included methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, prescription medications and marijuana. A string of auto thefts has just come to a close as Fort Pierce police finally arrested someone for the crime and brought him into custody. He is now in jail on a bail of more than $50,000. According to sources, the gentlemen allegedly stole a luxury car and several other vehicles over a period of about five weeks. He also reportedly seized and removed some valuable items from the vehicles such as a woman’s purse, computers, sports equipment and the like. Police searched the accused person’s home in late April after the judge signed an arrest warrant. They found many of the items that had been reported as stolen from the vehicle. St. Lucie County Sheriff Makes Arrest in Alleged 2017 Rape

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man accused of committing a sexual assault in 2017. An investigation of 48-year-old John Edward Reese began in early 2018 when a woman happened upon a newspaper notice regarding the man’s January 9 arrest for allegedly violating a curfew. Upon spotting the arrest notice, the woman contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report that she had previously been raped by Reese, and that his recent arrest and incarceration had given her the courage to come forward. Officials from the Sheriff’s Office stated that Reese had committed multiple prior offenses, including two that occurred in Martin County and dated back to 1997. Investigators in the Fort Pierce area of Florida stated that a man who was driving drunk was going at a speed of 71 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood when he hit and killed a woman in September 2017. On Monday, March 19, 2018, police arrested the man, who is 39 years old and resides in the 2000 block of North 45th Street in Fort Pierce. They subsequently charged him with vehicular homicide, DUI with property damage, DUI with serious bodily harm and driving under the influence manslaughter. Two men are facing battery charges after they allegedly attacked a man in Fort Pierce. Police say the men both attacked another man who ended up unconscious from the altercation. The man suffered serious injuries. Police say that the men allegedly knocked the victim to the ground and then punched him. They say the men used a baseball bat to hit the victim’s head. Woman drove drunk with child, 4 flat tires in Port St. Lucie

Port St. Lucie police recently arrested a 39-year-old woman who is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol with four flat tires and a child in the back seat of her car. Police reported that the woman was observed driving at about 10 mph in a 40 mph zone. She had a long line of cars behind her. Upon pulling the woman over, police detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.
