Vero Beach Police Department Operation Leads to Arrest of Men on Fentanyl, Drug Charges

Vero Beach drug charges

Investigators have seized supplies of drugs including Fentanyl and cannabis from a home where they arrested two men on Vero Beach drug charges. The suspects are due to appear in court on December 4 and will be represented by a Vero Beach criminal lawyer.

One 50-year-old man was charged with possession of Fentanyl with intent to sell or deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a church, and two other drugs offenses. A 66-year-old man was charged with possession of more than 20g of marijuana, possession of Oxycodone, and two other narcotics offenses. One of the men was held on a bond of $86,000 while the bond for the other man was set at $18,000.

Police said that they had been monitoring one of the men because he sold drugs to a confidential informant working for law enforcement last month. Officers recovered narcotics equipment including a glass crack pipe, several containers of marijuana and a spoon carrying a melted pill, according to authorities.

One of the arrested men denied knowing anything about the narcotics. He told police that a lot of different people passed through the house. In Florida, law enforcement must prove that a person charged with possession of drugs actually knew that the narcotics were present. Merely being found in the same building as illicit substances is not enough. By using knowledge of this and other defenses, Vero Beach criminal lawyer Jeffrey H. Garland can help protect the rights of bystanders who are unfairly caught up in law enforcement action against illegal activity by someone else.

Calling a lawyer is a crucial first step for anyone who is facing Vero Beach drug charges. Confronting Florida’s criminal justice system can be a painful experience. Suspects are quickly presented with complicated decisions that can have serious consequences for their lives. It is important to speak with an experienced attorney before signing paperwork or answering questions from law enforcement.
