A 26-year-old convicted felon from Port St. Lucie has been arrested and taken into police custody after investigators intercepted two packages addressed to him containing Ecstasy pills that originated from the Netherlands. He had been indicted by a federal grand jury for attempted importation of a controlled substance and attempted possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
The investigation of the man began in early 2016 after U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents intercepted a package that originated from the Netherlands that was addressed to the man in Port St. Lucie. The package contained what looked like about 125 Ecstasy pills. Law enforcement officials had removed the actual Ecstasy pills and replaced them with a look-alike substance. An undercover postal inspector then delivered the package to the man’s mailbox. When the man’s girlfriend got the package, she was stopped. She then agreed to call her boyfriend who later arrived and was taken into custody. After a search of the man’s home, he was also arrested on state charges involving possession of marijuana and possession of ammunition by a felon.
A search of the man’s cellphone apparently revealed that he had bought the Ecstasy with Bitcoins. The phone also revealed that he had inquired about a missing shipment.
