Indian River Criminal Defense Attorney, Jeffrey Garland reports a teen of only 15 years of age was taken into police custody after allegedly committing a violent carjacking against a man, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. The victim reported that he was jumped from behind and struck with a weapon behind a BP gas station located just off 43rd Avenue in the Indian River County, Florida area. The incident took place on Thursday, January 24, 2019.

After the man was robbed of his truck, he was then run over as the perpetrator took off with the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, police on the job in Vero Beach found his vehicle less than a mile from the scene of the crime.

The man, who is 50 years old, said that he ended up in the hospital and it was determined that his jaw had been broken and he had also suffered additional injuries. He further explained that he had to have his jaw wired shut as a result, and also suffered from two cracked ribs and a broken hip. He reported news about his injuries to a TV news station.

Later, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office stated that they found the teenaged suspect through forensic evidence. The Indian River County Sheriff stated that they would use the evidence to ensure that justice would be served for the man who was injured during the carjacking. The Sheriff further elaborated that the survivor was back home and recovering after undergoing a few surgeries.

The teen was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carjacking with a deadly weapon. According to the sheriff’s office, he is currently being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in the Fort Pierce area of Florida.
