A special DUI detail that was conducted over the Memorial Day holiday netted 28 arrests in Indian River County. Participating in the detail were the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department and officers from the Sebastian Police Department and Fellsmere Police Department. More than 150 traffic citations were issued by the detail during the holiday weekend, and 28 arrests were made. Those included 17 traffic arrests, seven DUI arrests and four drug arrests.
Deputies took one 44-year-old man into custody on an outstanding warrant. He was wanted on charges of domestic battery, assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of crack cocaine and possession of controlled substances. At the time of being taken into custody, the man was allegedly in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana, unidentified pills and $1,370 of suspected drug money. He is presently being held in the Indian River County Jail. No bail was set. The law enforcement agencies involved in the detail characterized it as a great team effort.
