The man, 63 years old, who resides at the 500 block of 46th Court in Vero Beach, Florida, was arrested on the charges by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, according to the arrest affidavit. First, he was charged with making fraudulent transactions, theft and falsification of facts, according to records.

The individual got the latest charge while he was serving time in jail for an arrest in July 2019. According to the Sheriff’s deputies, the perpetrator stole more than $100,000 from two other people in a crime that unrelated to that of the elderly woman.

The additional theft charge was added in late January 2020 after the investigation, which was assisted by the FBI. After the investigation, there was more than enough evidence to warrant an arrest, according to the affidavit.

The elderly woman actually first met the man through her sister 25 years prior, also according to the arrest affidavit. Years later, in 2013, he managed to convince her to allow him to be her financial advisor and managed some of her money.

Subsequently, he told the woman that he wanted her to invest some of her funds in a company called Treasure Coast Capital and Trust. However, the older woman stated that she wasn’t interested in placing any of her retirement money into any products that were risky, according to the arrest report.

The woman was also not given any disclosure documentation. Still, she stated that she was comfortable with the man’s services and hadn’t experienced any problems with him in the past.

According to the arrest affidavit, however, the woman paid $150,000 in total to the trust in April 2013. The man assured her that he would pay her $13,000 and 8 percent interest within that year, but the woman told law enforcement officers that she never got that money.

After his arrest, the man was held at the Indian River County Jail on $400,000 bond.
