Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide, DUI in Connection with September Crash

Port Saint Lucie DUI Defense AttorneyInvestigators in the Fort Pierce area of Florida stated that a man who was driving drunk was going at a speed of 71 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood when he hit and killed a woman in September 2017.

On Monday, March 19, 2018, police arrested the man, who is 39 years old and resides in the 2000 block of North 45th Street in Fort Pierce. They subsequently charged him with vehicular homicide, DUI with property damage, DUI with serious bodily harm and driving under the influence manslaughter.

The victim, a 55-year-old woman, was killed on September 1, 2017 when she was struck during the collision, which took place at North 23rd Street and Avenue P, according to the Fort Pierce police.

The man was driving a Chevrolet Impala at the time of the incident. He was traveling east down Avenue P and ran a stop sign, only to crash into the driver’s side of a Saturn that was traveling southbound, according to the police investigating the accident.

The drunk man had a pair of passengers in tow in the Impala as well. A 45-year-old man and two-year-old baby girl were present in the vehicle and also sustained injuries that were minor and were treated after the accident. According to the police, the two-year-old is the man’s granddaughter.

The man was reported by police as having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14 during the time of the car accident. That number is almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Florida. The man was traveling at 71 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone when he ran the stop sign, according to investigators.

After the deadly accident, the man was held on a $530,000 bail bond at the St. Lucie County Jail. Two days prior, he’d also been charged with an unrelated DUI and a charge for weapons possession. It is unknown if the man has yet to retain a Saint Lucie County criminal defense lawyer.
